Inspiration
Do you love granny square patterns? If yes, then try this granny square top.
I wasn’t very keen on granny square patterns until I made this top. It is my first granny square pattern to design and I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed designing and making it. It is easy and quick to work out and I love the final product.
I designed this pattern and guest hosted it on Michelle Ferguson’s Two Brothers Blanket Blog and now it is finally on my blog. It is a privilege to be featured on Michelle’s Two Brother’s Blankets Blog.

I used Bernat Baby Softee Cotton 60% Cotton, 40% Acrylic. I have used this yarn on other projects but never a top. I have always liked the yarn and I love the way the top turned out. The yarn is soft, light, and easy to work with.

Special technique
Magic ring: Holding yarn a few inches from the end, wrap around 2 fingers. Do not remove the wrap from the finger, insert the hook into the center of the wrap and draw up a loop of working yarn. Chain one stitch to secure loop and remove from fingers. Work around once in the pattern instructions and then pull the hanging yarn to tighten the ring

Rounds are joined in the 3rd ch of the same row with a sl st, then sl st in next 2 sts and in ch-1 sp to start the next round.
Ch 3 at the beginning of rounds counts as a stitch.
The last 3 dc of each round are worked in the same ch-sp where the first 3 dc were worked in the same row then sl st to join.
Ch-sps at the shell and in the shell will not be counted in the sts as they are constant.

Finishing All Sizes
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With the wrong side facing, put the 2 pieces together.
Measure the armhole as per measurements above or to fit and mark the spot. Sew and stop at the marked spot.
Sew the shoulders together, leaving the neck opening as desired
Waist, neck and Sleeves
Attach yarn at either shoulder seam for neck, under armhole seam for the sleeve, and either side for the waist.
ch 1, sc in each st and ch with 3 sc in each ch-2 sp and 1 sc in ch-1 sp on all sides. Do not fasten off.
Ch 3, 2 dc in 1st st, sk 2, sl st in next st, *ch 3, 2 dc in last sl st, sk 2, sl st in next st, rep from * for around the neck, sleeves and waist.
