Mildred Lace Scarf
Inspiration
I made this scarf in honor of my cousin Mildred who passed away a long time ago in her late 20’s. She was a single parent of 4 young children, of which her mother, with the help of her sisters, assumed care of. She was a generous and loving mother, daughter, sister, and of course cousin.
Despite all the challenges her mother and sisters had to go through, the children are grown and the middle two are pursuing their higher education while the youngest is in high school. Unlike countries such as the United States where high school education is free, in Kenya, it is not and it is not cheap.
Since one of my causes with my crochet and knit business is to use part of my proceeds to help those in need with education and medical needs, my family and I promised to financially support these children with their education as much as they need. They are part of the many children we support and we always feel so honored to be part of these girls’ and boys’ lives.
The smiles and joy we see on their faces when they succeed are unspeakable. And that is enough to make me wake up every day ready to design and learn all the challenges that go with starting and running a small business.
I am very excited that Agat of Made by Gootie let me be part of the Shades of Autumn Blog Hop. This gives me a chance to share the Mildred Lace Pattern with as many people as possible with the hope that they will use the pattern to bless other people. I hope they will have fun making the scarf and it will motivate them to make even more scarves for family, friends, and other people in need this coming Christmas, thus sharing.
The Shades of Autumn Blog Hop includes several designers who have come together to share their patterns. The blog hop runs from October 1st to October 20th from 8 am to 8 am the following day. A different pattern is featured.

Yarn
I used Lion Brand Cupcake Coffee Break Yarn 100% Acrylic which is a weight 3 (Light) yarn. This was my first time using this yarn and I was impressed by how soft it felt and how easy it was to work with. I was even more impressed by how soft the finished scarf feels. And the best part is that you need only one ball of yarn. That is unless you want a bigger scarf. You can use any weight 3 yarn if unable to find this particular yarn.
