Trendy Toddler Sweater

Inspiration

I recently visited my family back home a while ago, and one of the people I got to meet for the first time was my nephew’s son. He got me thinking about making him a sweater. At first, I wanted to use someone else’s pattern since it would be faster. Then the opportunity for “The Autumn Exclusives” Blog Hop by Fiona Field of Cosy Rosie UK opened up. The blog hop called for new designs. So I decided to design him a sweater and share it in the blog hop. It was a joy designing and crocheting this sweater and I am so thankful for the opportunity to share it in the Autumn Exclusive Blog Hop. The sweater is coming just in time for the cold weather. A sweater that will leave your child feeling warm, cozy, and loved when it matters!

Making this sweater came easily since I designed the Trendy Toddler Pants, and made the sweater to match it. Both patterns can be purchased either individually or together. I did this so that it will be easier to get only what you need. Scroll down to the end to see the modeled photos of both designs.

 Yarn

I used Baby Bee Sweet Delight 60% Acrylic, 40% Polyamide in Flannel (Color A), Baby Blue (Color B), and Angel (Color C). It is a DK yarn, making it the best yarn for toddlers. I have used this yarn before to make garments and blankets for friends and family and loved it. The yarn is soft and easy to work with. It also suits the weather where my nephew lives. It does not get very cold there, making it the best choice to wear all year round. Alternatives to this yarn would be Baby Bee Sweet Delight Prints, Mary Maxim Baby, Lion Brand Babysoft Solid, and Katia Saigon.

Notes

  • Sc at the beg of the band counts as a st.

  • Ch 2 at the beg counts as a st on the yoke.

  • Ch 2 does not count as a stitch on the body and sleeves.

  • Ch 1 at beg of row counts as a st on the neckband.

  • The pattern is written in multiple sizes and indicated by color-coding

  • Advised to highlight the size you want to make to avoid confusion.

  • Stitches are indicated at the end of the row only if there is a change in number from the previous row.

  • When dividing for body and sleeves, one of the sleeves will be worked halfway done. To avoid joining the sleeve on the outer side during the rounds, start under the arm and sl st on half of the sleeve previously done before finishing off that row and join under the arm.

  • The number of rounds is different for each size. Rounds where stitch repeats states 0 should be skipped for that size
