Valerie’s Diamond Scarf
Valerie’s Diamond Scarf is the fourth pattern in “The Gemstone Crochet Scarf Collection” of 2022. This is a collection of a new crochet scarf every month based on the color of the birthstone for that month and any of my children and nieces born in that month. April is a special month to me.
Spring is when flowers start to bloom and everything comes to life. And just as flowers started to bloom and flowers come to life, is when I bloomed and became a mother for the first time. Everything came to life then and nothing has ever been the same. As you might have guessed, Valerie is my firstborn child and my only daughter. She is my daughter, my best friend, an adviser, and more.
I know I promised to release a scarf every month, but as we all know, life happens. We had some challenging times in our family with sickness and the last thing I wanted to do was to push myself too much. Some things had to give and this was one of them. As the saying goes, “Better late than never”. The April scarf is here and I look forward to releasing the May and June scarves soon.
As the birthstone for April is a diamond, I decided to make a diamond pattern using sparkle white yarn as it is the closest color to a diamond. I used two different diamond patterns to add style to the scarf. The scarf is long and wide perfect for use as a scarf, or blanket, and can be worn in different styles.
Other Scarves in “The Gemstone Crochet Scarf Collection” include:
January’s Grace’s Garnet Scarf
February’s Clarice’s Amethyst Scarf
March’s Lydia’s Aquamarine Scarf

Yarn
I used Baby Bee Sweet Delight Pomp 54% Acrylic, 36% Polyamide, and 10% Rayon in angel. I chose this yarn because, apart from it being white, it has a shiny sparkle that looks like diamonds. This is a DK yarn, which is perfect for spring and summer. The yarn is soft and easy to work with.
Comparable yarns you can use include:
Mary Maxim Baby, Baby Bee Sweet Delight, Katia Saigon, and Lion Brand Babysofr Pompadour
Pattern
I knew I wanted to make a scarf with a diamond pattern. I just had to decide what pattern of diamonds I wanted to use.
I finally decided to go with filet diamonds. I remember around the time I gave birth to Valerie, most crochet patterns I made were filet. I just wanted to remind myself of that time and so that is why I chose the filet diamond pattern.
Since I wanted the scarf to be wide and long, I decided to add a different diamond pattern just to break the monotony. I, therefore, added it on both sides for style while lengthening the scarf.
