    About the Design & Inspiration

Building on the relaxed, airy aesthetic of last year’s beach collection, the inspiration for this crochet bag free pattern was to create a functional yet elegant piece that perfectly complements those items. I wanted a bag that wasn’t just practical for carrying essentials but also added a touch of handmade charm to any warm-weather outfit.

This handmade crochet tote bag features a classic, versatile shape that makes it suitable for trips to the beach, pool, or even your local farmer’s market. Its design emphasizes both durability and lightness, essential qualities for a summer tote.

A Durable and Lightweight Crochet Bag Free Pattern

This handmade beach bag is made using worsted weight (weight 4) 100% cotton yarn for the main color. This choice offers excellent durability and structure, ensuring your bag holds its shape while remaining soft to the touch. The natural fibers of cotton are also ideal for beach use, as they are breathable and easy to care for.

The contrast detailing uses weight 3 cotton-blend yarn, adding a lighter touch and visual interest. The mix of yarn weights not only creates a subtle texture but also keeps the bag lightweight and breathable, perfect for summer use.

The finished bag measures 16 inches wide by 12 inches high (without the handle) and 18 inches high including the handle. The size is ideal for carrying your beach or pool gear without being bulky.

The bag is worked in the round, which means no seaming and a smooth, seamless construction that holds up well with regular use.

    Easy Construction, Eye-Catching Results

This crochet bag free pattern is worked in simple stitches, making it approachable for advanced beginners while still offering enough interest for more experienced crocheters. It’s a great weekend project or something you can work on during relaxing evenings. The bag’s construction is both straightforward and satisfying, with the final product ready to use or gift.

    Yarn Suggestions and Substitutions

For best results, use 100% cotton yarn in worsted (weight 4) for the base of the bag. This ensures strength and structure, especially if you plan to carry heavier items like water bottles or books. The contrasting color in weight 3 cotton yarn adds a decorative touch without weighing down the design.

    Some great yarn options include:

Lily Sugar’n Cream and Lion Brand Local Grown Cotton Yarn for the main color or Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton yarn

Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK or Premier Cotton Fair for the contrast color

Make sure to check your gauge to maintain the bag’s intended shape and measurements.

Where to Use This Crochet Bag Free Pattern

This crochet beach bag isn’t just for the beach. You can use it as a:

    • Pool tote
    • Market bag
    • Picnic companion
    • Lightweight everyday carry bag

Its versatility means it can be part of your summer outings or serve as a reusable shopping tote that’s both eco-friendly and stylish.

    A Great Summer Gift Idea

If you’re looking for summer crochet gift ideas, this crochet bag free pattern makes a thoughtful, handmade present. Pair it with the matching beach cover-up for a set, or gift it on its own with a few fun summer items tucked inside.

  • Baby Velvet Crochet Blanket

    Baby Velvet Crochet Blanket

Brown and cream velvet baby blanket on a chair

Making something special is always a rewarding experience, and this new crochet pattern is no exception. Designed with love and care, the Easy Crochet Baby Velvet Blanket is a perfect addition to any nursery. This pattern offers an array of sizes, from a comforting lovey to a generously sized crib blanket, making it versatile for every baby’s needs.

    The Inspiration Behind the Design

When a project begins as a heartfelt request, it often becomes something truly special. This baby velvet blanket was born out of love—literally. My son and daughter-in-law gave me a simple wish: a soft, snuggly blanket for their new nephew. They envisioned something warm and timeless, something that could be treasured from the first days in a bassinet to cozy naps in a crib.

And just like that, the idea took shape.

This pattern brings together everything I adore in a baby blanket: texture, comfort, and a touch of elegance. Made using plush velvet yarn, the blanket features gentle stripes in two contrasting colors, adding depth and visual interest without being overwhelming. The moss stitch—a personal favorite for its subtle texture and stretch—creates a gentle, woven look that feels just right against a baby’s delicate skin.

    Baby Velvet Crochet Blanket

     Why Moss Stitch?

The moss stitch, also known as the linen stitch, has long been a go-to for baby projects. Its balanced structure means the fabric lays flat, holds its shape, and showcases stripes beautifully. Plus, it’s wonderfully meditative to work—perfect for stitching in peace while thinking of the little one who’ll soon be wrapped in it.

    Sizes That Grow With Baby

One of the best things about the “Easy Crochet Baby Velvet Blanket” pattern is its versatility. It includes instructions for multiple sizes,

    • Lovey – A small, portable comfort blanket that’s perfect for tiny hands to hold and snuggle.
    • Stroller – Ideal for bundling up on brisk walks.
    • Receiving – Just right for swaddling and gifting.
    • Crib – A larger size for growing little ones to enjoy well into toddlerhood.

This makes it a wonderful project whether you’re welcoming a newborn, creating a treasured keepsake, or simply love the feel of a beautiful handmade blanket.

    Baby Shower Blog Hop

This delightful blanket is part of the Baby Shower Blog Hop, where you will find beautiful crochet patterns ideal for baby showers or celebrating newborns. This blog hop, hosted by Kristine of Ambassador Crochet, features different crochet designers who have come together to share their creations. The blog hop runs from April  to May. Each designer offers a free PDF pattern on the day their pattern is featured. There is also a bundle of all the patterns in the blog hop at a discounted price for those unable to hop daily. About the Yarn

Choosing the right yarn is essential for achieving the desired plushness and warmth. Opt for quality velvet yarn in two contrasting colors that complement each other. The results will be stunning, and the texture will ensure that the blanket becomes a cherished item for years to come.

For this blanket, I opted to use Bernat Velvet yarn which turned out to be perfect. The blanket is soft, plush, and cozy, perfect for the little one.

Comparable yarns to Bernat Velvet yarn, if unavailable are among others Premier Yarns Retro Velvet, YarnArt Chenille, Baby Bee Adore-a-Ball, Yarn Bee Velvety Smooth, and Rico Design Creative Chenillove

Working with velvet yarn adds an extra layer of luxury to any blanket. The plush texture is simply irresistible, making it a truly special gift. While velvet yarn can sometimes be a little different to work with, the moss stitch is a forgiving pattern that allows the inherent beauty of the yarn to shine.

What you can expect from the pattern:

    • Clear and concise written instructions.
    • Sizing for lovey, stroller, receiving, and crib blankets.
    • Guidance on yarn selection, specifically for working with velvet yarn.
    • Tips for achieving neat color changes in the moss stitch.
    • A finished project that is both beautiful and incredibly soft to the touch

    Yearning for yarn,

    Pam

A few years ago, I made a Bernat Blanket yarn crochet blanket as a Christmas gift for a friend. She loved it and often told me how much comfort it brought her. Last year, she reached out to share that her mom had also fallen in love with the blanket. It became her go-to source of warmth and comfort her when she visited her

Touched by how much her mom cherished the blanket, my friend asked if I could make another one specifically for her mom – this time in her favorite colors, red and white, just in time for Christmas. That heartfelt request inspired this very blanket pattern.

Hearing that her mom loved the new blanket so much warmed my heart, and it was even more special when her mom decided she wanted to make one for her daughter-in-law as a birthday gift. I’ll be sharing that beautiful version of the blanket in the near future. I hope this pattern brings just as much warmth and joy to you and your loved ones as it has to mine.

This crochet blanket pattern was designed with simplicity and elegance in mind. The combination of three colors creates a beautiful striped or color-blocked effect, while the plush texture of Bernat Blanket yarn makes it extra cozy and inviting. The stitches are simple and beginner-friendly, yet they create a soft, luxurious finish that feels timeless.

How about knowing that this blanket pattern is perfect for any level you are in your crochet journey? Don’t let the beauty of it fool you!

    Crochet Washcloth Pattern-Sage

I’m excited to share that this quick and easy crochet washcloth pattern is part of the International Crochet Blog Hop! For this special event, you can grab the PDF pattern for free today only.
One of the greatest things about crochet washcloths is their endless versatility. They can be used for so many purposes around the home:
In the bathroom – Use them as gentle face cloths or body scrubbers.
In the kitchen – Perfect for washing dishes or wiping down countertops.
For everyday cleaning – Great for dusting, wiping spills, or drying your hands.
With so many uses, crochet washcloths are truly a must-have in any home.
Another reason I love making washcloths is that they’re an ideal swatch project. If you’re learning a new stitch pattern or experimenting with different yarns, turning your test piece into a washcloth is a fantastic way to reduce waste and create something useful. Instead of tossing your swatch aside, you’ll have a practical item you can put to work right away.
Whether you’re building a stack of handmade essentials for your home, creating thoughtful gifts, or just looking for a relaxing crochet project, washcloths are always a win.

    Yarn

I used Lion Brand Scarfieto to make these crochet fingerless gloves. The yarn, known for its softness, warmth, and beautiful self-striping ombre effect, adds visual interest to the gloves and makes them extra snug and comfortable during the chilly days.

As a bulky weight (#5) yarn, Scarfie works up quickly, making it perfect for last-minute gifts.

I love the gradual ombre effect of the yarn as it creates a beautiful gradient look without requiring color changes, making every pair of gloves unique.

    Crochet Double Thick Potholder Pattern

Two crochet hot pads on a white surface with crochet hook and scissors on top

My crochet double thick potholder has been one of my most popular creations, and I couldn’t be happier with how much people love it. When my first double thick hot pad pattern, A Touch of Autumn Potholder, became a bestseller on Etsy, I knew I had to create something new and exciting to expand my collection. I wanted to offer an alternative design that would provide the same level of heat protection but also introduce a fresh, unique stitch pattern to keep things interesting.

This new crochet double thick potholder features a distinctive stitch pattern that adds a touch of elegance and style while maintaining the functionality you need in the kitchen. Unlike traditional potholders, the technique used here may require a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes a simple and enjoyable project. The result is a beautifully textured crochet double thick potholder that feels substantial and offers excellent heat resistance.

Why A Crochet Double Thick Potholder?

What makes double thick crochet potholder truly stand out is the construction and the way the stitch pattern comes together. At first, you may need to carefully pay attention to where each stitch is placed, but don’t worry—once you’ve mastered it, the process will feel natural, and you’ll be able to create this crochet double thick potholder effortlessly.

If you’re looking to add a handmade touch to your kitchen or searching for the perfect gift for friends and family, this double-thick hot pad is for you. Its stylish design, functionality, and aesthetic appeal make it an essential and beautiful accent piece for any kitchen.

    Yarn

When it comes to crocheting potholders, choosing the right yarn is just as important as the pattern itself. For this crochet double thick potholder, I’ve chosen Lily Sugar ‘n Cream 100% cotton yarn—and for good reason!

What Makes Lily Sugar ‘n Cream Ideal for Potholders?

    1. 100% Cotton for Heat Resistance
Cotton yarn is a natural fiber known for its durability and ability to withstand high temperatures, making it perfect for items that will come into contact with hot pans, dishes, and bakeware. Unlike synthetic yarns, cotton doesn’t melt when exposed to heat, ensuring your potholder is both safe and functional.

    2. Durability and Strength
Potholders need to stand up to daily wear and tear, and Lily Sugar ‘n Cream delivers. This yarn is strong enough to handle constant use and frequent washing, so your potholders will last for years without losing their shape or color.

    3. Absorbency
Another benefit of cotton yarn is its natural absorbency. This makes the potholder useful as a trivet or even for handling moist or greasy dishes without slipping.

    4. Wide Range of Colors
Lily Sugar ‘n Cream offers an incredible variety of solid, variegated, and striped colorways, allowing you to customize your potholder to match any kitchen decor. Whether you prefer bright, bold hues or neutral tones, there’s a shade for every taste.

    5. Eco-Friendly Option
As a natural fiber, cotton is biodegradable and environmentally friendly. By using Lily Sugar ‘n Cream yarn, you’re choosing a sustainable option for your handmade projects.

    The Inspiration Behind the Design

Sometimes, the best projects come from unexpected moments of creativity. After finishing a matching cardigan and hat, I found myself with leftover yarn and a desire to create a thoughtful, handmade gift. The clock was ticking, and I needed something quick yet elegant. That’s when the idea of this twisted ear warmer headband struck me.

Drawing inspiration from a Mama’s Mobius Scarf I had designed previously, I adapted the concept to a smaller scale. The result? A twisted crochet ear warmer design that is cozy and stylish but deceptively simple to crochet. It’s proof that even leftover yarn can create something beautiful!

What Stitches Are Best for Crochet Headband Ear Warmers?

Choosing the right stitch can elevate your crochet headband from basic to beautiful. Here’s a breakdown of stitches ideal for different seasons:

Best Stitches for Crochet Summer Headbands

Summer headbands are typically light, breathable, and often more decorative. These stitches offer an airy design and flexibility:

    • Mesh Stitch

Creates an open, lacy texture, perfect for a lightweight summer accessory.

    • Shell Stitch

This decorative stitch adds a delicate, feminine look while maintaining airflow.

    • V-Stitch

A popular choice for summer, the V-stitch is open and airy, making it ideal for breathable, lightweight headbands.

    • Picot Stitch

Often used as an edging, this stitch adds a lovely, lacy touch to headbands for summer.

    • Puff Stitch

Though it adds texture, puff stitch creates small raised sections that allow air to pass through, making it a stylish choice for warmer weather.

Best Stitches for Crochet Headbands for Winter

Winter headbands or ear warmers need to be cozy and warm, often using thicker, more structured stitches:

    • Single Crochet (SC)

The density of SC is perfect for trapping warmth, making it ideal for winter headbands.

    • Half Double Crochet (HDC)

A bit more flexible than SC, HDC offers warmth while allowing slight stretch.

    • Alpine Stitch

This dense, textured stitch is perfect for warm and thick headbands or ear warmers.

    • Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) & Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC)

These stitches create a thick, ribbed texture, ideal for insulating and adding a stretchy, snug fit.

    • Bean Stitch

Adds a thick, cozy texture, perfect for winter headbands that need to provide extra warmth.

    • Ribbed Stitches

Stitches like the Back Loop Only (BLO) HDC create a ribbed texture, offering great elasticity, making them perfect for ear warmers or snug-fitting headbands.

Difference Between Ear Warmers and Headbands

Both ear warmers and headbands are stylish accessories, but they serve slightly different purposes:

    • Headbands

Often thinner and used mainly as fashion accessories or to hold hair back. They are lighter, making them more suitable for warmer months.

    • Ear Warmers

Wider and more functional, designed specifically to cover and protect your ears from the cold. Ear warmers are usually made with thicker yarns and stitches to provide warmth.

    Crochet Headband Measurements

Getting the right fit is crucial for both comfort and functionality. Here’s a quick guide to standard headband sizes:

    • Adult Headband

Measures 20-22 inches in circumference, with a width of 3-4 inches for headbands and 4-6 inches for ear warmers.

    • Child Headband

Measures 17-19 inches in circumference, with a width of about 2-3 inches.

    • Baby Headband

Measures 14-16 inches in circumference, with a width of about 1-2 inches.

Remember, crochet tends to stretch, so aim for your headband to be about 1-2 inches smaller than the head circumference you’re making it for.

Supplies for Crochet Ear Warmer Headbands

To create a beautiful crochet headband, you’ll need:

    • Yarn

Choose a yarn weight that matches the style you’re going for (lightweight for a delicate headband, bulky for an ear warmer).

    • Hook

The crochet hook size will depend on the yarn weight, but typically, you’ll use a hook between 4mm to 6mm for headbands.

    • Measuring Tape

To measure head circumference and ensure proper sizing.

    • Tapestry Needle

For weaving in ends once your headband is complete.

    • Scissors

For trimming yarn after you’re done.

    Best Yarns for Crochet Headbands

Choosing the right yarn ensures both comfort and durability. Here’s a breakdown of the best options for each season:

    Best Yarns for Summer Headbands

    • Cotton Yarn

The go-to choice for lightweight, breathable headbands. Cotton yarn is soft, durable, and perfect for warm-weather accessories.

    • Bamboo Yarn

This lightweight, eco-friendly yarn is soft and moisture-wicking, making it an excellent choice for summer.

    • Linen or Silk Blends

Lightweight, breathable, and with a beautiful drape, these yarns are perfect for decorative and elegant summer headbands.

    Best Yarns for Winter Headbands

    • Acrylic Yarn

Affordable and warm, acrylic yarn works well for winter headbands or ear warmers. It’s machine washable and comes in endless color choices.

    • Wool or Wool Blends

Known for excellent insulation, wool yarn keeps your head and ears cozy, making it ideal for winter accessories.

    • Bulky or Super Bulky Yarns

These yarns are perfect for creating chunky, warm ear warmers that provide extra warmth in the colder months.

How to Customize Your Head Wrap

Customization is where your creativity can shine! Here are some ideas to make your headband uniquely yours:

    • Add Buttons or Embellishments

Stitch buttons, beads, or crochet flowers to your crochet headband to give it a stylish touch..

    • Color Changes

Incorporate stripes or different colored sections to create a bold, eye-catching design.

    • Texture

Experiment with different stitches to create textured sections. Puff stitches, bobbles, or cables can add extra dimension and interest to your headband.

    • .Personalized Sizing

Adjust the width and length to suit your style or needs. A wider headband could double as an ear warmer, while a thinner one is more suitable for summer.

    • Ties and Bows:

Crochet headband with bows or ties to give your headband a playful or elegant touch.

As the days go by and Christmas approaches, we are pressed for time that is very limited. Personally, I feel like I need to make more Christmas gifts but do not have the time to make them. I would prefer my family and friends to receive a gift that I designed and made with love.

Coming up with this headband pattern has given me hope. It is quick and easy to make, but still fashionable. I believe it is a gift that any woman or lady will love, whether young or older. Also, the headband does not take a lot of yarn, making it possible to make as many gifts as you want at a low cost. I plan to make the same pattern for several of my friends and family. I will just need to make them in their favorite colors.

When I saw this yarn, with its softness and thickness, I knew I wanted to make something with it. I decided to start with an Ear Warmer so that I could try it out first. After I finished, I knew I had made the right decision. This ear warmer is just what is needed for this coming weather. The warmth and softness is perfect. The pattern is very easy to make and uses only one ball of yarn. I have already made several of them for family and friends for Christmas gifts.

I don’t know about you but when the weather is hot, my hair is always up in a bun or ponytail. Who am I kidding? It’s an all-year-round thing for me. But during the summer/fall those little fly aways feel much more noticeable. Maybe it’s because in the winter I’m always wearing a beanie? I don’t know. But the reality is, a little bit of time outside or a car trip with the windows open and what may have started as a good hair day has turned into frizzy bad hair day. My solution: a crochet hair scarf. So I whipped myself up a crochet hair scarf and now I’m here to share with you my Berry Good Hair Day Crochet Hair Scarf Pattern. Why a crochet blanket using Bernat Blanket yarn? I made myself a blanket using the Bernat Blanket yarn and loved it so much that one year I decided to make blankets for my family and close friends using the same yarn. I truly believe it was one of the best gifts I’ve ever given family and friends during Christmas. It brings me so much joy when I visit and see them wrapped up in the blankets I made. Some of them even asked me to make additional blankets for their own friends and family as gifts, while others simply referred people to me after seeing how cozy and beautiful their blankets turned out. It’s been wonderful to see how much they all love them!

Best part is you can customize the blankets as you want to make it uniquely yours!

    Yarn

I used Bernat Blanket yarn for this blanket. Bernat Blanket Yarn is a super bulky (category 6) yarn that’s incredibly soft, plush, and perfect for making cozy blankets, throws, and home decor items. It is made from 100% polyester, it has a chenille-like texture that’s both smooth and durable, making it ideal for projects that need to withstand regular use. This yarn works up quickly due to its thickness, making it a favorite among crocheters and knitters for time-sensitive projects or when you want a luxurious finish. Bernat Blanket yarn is also machine washable and dryer safe, which adds to its practicality.

Apart from it’s softness, I love Bernat Blanket yarn because it comes in a wide range of colors, from neutrals to brights, allowing for endless creative possibilities. Each skein offers excellent yardage, making it budget-friendly for larger projects like blankets.

Crochet Rectangular Shawls and Wraps Patterns

Are you looking for the perfect accessory to add to your wardrobe? Crochet Rectangle Shawls are one of the most practical yet fashionable accessories a crocheter can make, as they are versatile, stylish, and functional. They are ideal for any season, keeping you warm during the colder months and adding a stylish layer to your summer wardrobe during the warmer months.

You can wear a crochet rectangular shawl wrap draped over your shoulders, wrapped around your neck like a scarf, or even as a light throw blanket on a chilly evening. The simple shape of a crochet rectangle wrap allows for endless creativity, from intricate lace designs to modern minimalist styles.

Crochet rectangular wraps are beginner-friendly but still offer enough variety to keep seasoned crocheters entertained.

This blog post features a roundup of 18 free crochet rectangle shawl and wrap patterns. Each of these crochet wrap patterns comes with detailed instructions, making it easy to get started.

Looking for a specific style of shawl? Here are some of the crochet rectangle wrap patterns included in this roundup of free crochet patterns:

    • Textured Stripes Shawl – A mix of stitches creates a lovely texture, making this shawl both warm and stylish.

    • Color-Blocked Shawl – Play with different colors of yarn for a modern, eye-catching design.

    • Light and Lacy Shawl – Perfect for summer, this shawl uses a lightweight yarn and an airy stitch pattern to create a delicate design.

    • Granny Stripe Shawl – A classic pattern that combines simplicity with bold colors for a stylish finish.

    Choosing the Right Yarn

Most of these crochet shawl patterns call for lightweight to medium-weight yarn. To make it easy, I have included the yarn weight and hook size for each wrap. Be sure to choose a yarn that suits the pattern and the season you plan to wear your shawl in. Choose lightweight yarns for spring and summer, and bulkier yarns for fall and winter. The versatility of these patterns means you can create the perfect shawl for any time of year.

This crochet wrap pattern combines elegance, versatility, and warmth, making it the perfect accessory to add to your fall and winter wardrobe. Measuring 21 inches wide and 81 inches long, this crochet shawl is the ideal size to drape over your shoulders or wrap around your neck for warmth. Its simple yet elegant design uses two different stitch patterns, giving the crochet wide scarf both texture and visual appeal.

This simple crochet wrap pattern alternates between two stitch patterns: the V-stitch and the diamond-shaped granny stitch. The V-stitch creates a loose, open texture that allows the shawl to drape nicely, while the diamond granny stitch adds structure and visual interest.
