If you’re looking for a Crochet Men’s Beanie Pattern that makes a practical handmade gift, this two-color beanie is a great project to add to your list. Made with Big Twist Value yarn in two shades of blue, this simple men’s crochet hat comes in four sizes—Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large —so you can make one for just about any man in your life.
But this beanie didn’t begin as a hat. It actually started with a sweater and a very special gift for my father-in-law.
The Story Behind This Crochet Men’s Beanie Pattern
Some of my favorite crochet projects are the ones that have a story behind them. I enjoy designing patterns, but there is something different about making an item when you already know who will receive it.

A few years ago, my family and I were planning a visit with my father-in-law. I wanted to take him something special—something I had made myself. Instead of buying a gift, I decided to crochet him a sweater.
There is always a little extra thought that goes into making something for someone you love. You think about the colors they might like, how they will wear it, and whether the finished piece will suit them.
After hours of work on that sweater, one of the best parts was seeing my father-in-law wear it. I loved knowing that I had created something especially for him and that it was now part of his wardrobe.
That sweater eventually inspired me to create a matching hat.
A Hat to Complete the Set
This crochet men’s beanie pattern was designed to coordinate with the sweater, creating a handmade hat-and-sweater set for men. The sweater pattern isn’t available yet, but I wanted to share the beanie with you first.
For the hat, I chose Big Twist Value yarn in two different shades of blue. Using two shades adds a little interest to the design while still keeping the finished hat simple enough for everyday wear.
This beanie is worked from the top down using basic double crochet and single crochet stitches. If you are comfortable with these common crochet stitches, you will recognize much of what is used to create this hat.

I also designed the pattern in four sizes: Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large. Having several size options makes this a useful pattern to keep on hand when you need a handmade gift for a husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, friend, or another special man in your life.
A Handmade Gift for the Men in Our Lives
Sometimes it’s difficult to decide what to crochet for men. Hats are one of my favorite choices because they are practical, useful, and don’t require too much time to make.
The best thing about a handmade beanie is that you can personalize it simply by changing the colors. You can choose his favorite colors, use team-inspired colors, keep it neutral, or select two shades from the same color family as I did with my blues.
Since this is a crochet hat pattern for men in four sizes, you have more flexibility in choosing who to make it for.
